February 17, 2010: Combusto the Steam Boiler

The brewery's steam boiler arrived today. This 1.2 million BTU behemoth will provide heat to our brew vessels through a network of overhead steam piping. The steam from the boiler flows into the space between the inner and outer walls of the brew vessels, causing the whole interior of the tank to heat up. This ensures even heating, and is much more efficient than simply heating the vessel from the bottom with a large gas burner.
